Links Between Activities

Learn about the types of links between activities and how to manage them.

In the Gantt, the activities can be linked to each other, with 4 types of links:

  • Finish to Start (fs): This is the default link type. The activity must not start until its predecessor has finished.

  • Start to Start (ss): The activity must not start if its predecessor has not started (it can start at any time after its predecessor, they do not need to start at the same time).

  • Finish to Finish (ff): The activity must not be completed until its predecessor has been completed (it can be completed at any time after its predecessor, they do not have to finish at the same time).

  • Start to Finish (sf) : The activity cannot be completed until its predecessor starts (it can be completed any time after its predecessor has started).

In ProPlanner you can manage your links in two ways:

  1. You can edit the information in the "Predecessors" column of the corresponding activity.

The input format should be: predecessor ID + link type + lag days .

For example, if we have two activities, A1 and B1, where B1 cannot start until A starts, then:

  • Predecessor Activity ID: 2
  • Link Type: Start to Start (ss)
  • Lag days: 0

In this way, for activity B1 you must enter in the Predecessor field: 2ss+0

Note: Links must be entered in English (fs, ss, ff, sf) .

  1. The other way to generate links between activities is by dragging and dropping between the activities to be linked.

In this way, you can link the activities quickly. The "Predecessor" field will automatically populate based on the type of link created.

If you wish to edit the days of lag between the linked activities, you can do so in the "Predecessor" field or by double-clicking directly on the link between the activities .
